بخشی از خاک استانبول در آسیا و بخشی دیگر در اروپا واقع شده است و از این نظر تنها شهر در جهان است که در دو قاره بصورت همزمان قرار دارد. بخش آسیایی از مناطق آدالار، آتاشهیر، بیکوز، چکمهکؤی، کادیکؤی، کارتال، مالتپه، پندیک، سانجاک تپه، سلطان بیلی، شیله، توزلا، عمرانیه، اسکودار
در استانبول به این بخش، آنادولو یاکاسی گفته میشود و به بخش اروپایی، آوروپا یاکاسی.
